KTM do deal with Datatag for '05 range BUYERS OF next year's KTMs will get a little something extra for their money - peace of mind! The '05 KTMs all come with a Datatag security kit fitted to make bikes easier to recover if stolen. As well as tamper-proof labels, the system - designed to withstand the punishment of off-road use - uses electronic transponders programmed with unique codes for each machine that are hidden throughout the bike. These are virtually impossible to find and remove without damaging the bike but can easily be read using Datatag scanners. At present there are over 3000 scanners in use by UK police forces and this figure will rise considerably thanks to a new initiative between Datatag and the ACU that will see scanners supplied for use at race meetings and practice days. "Frequently the innocent victims are young riders who cannot afford to replace the stolen machine, which often results in a premature end to their competition days," says KTM UK MD Kevin Burk. "For the dealer every stolen machine could mean a lost bike sale and furthermore the loss of parts and accessories business. So we have a number of reasons to stop this problem once and for all which is why we have embraced this key Datatag initiative."
