Motocross

Gutted doesnt quite come close to how the team at Red Bull Pro Nationals promoters, Events 22, were feeling, after they were forced to cancel Sundays racing at round three of the series at Canada Heights due to a waterlogged venue. But even with the rain-shortened weekend there were still 15 cracking races on the Saturday, with the Red Bull Elite Youth Cup and Open Two-stroke pilots locking horns on the demanding Kent circuit.

In the Rookie class Jake Millward did his best to make amends for his round two DNF, by taking a brace of wins and a second, which was good enough for him to leapfrog Dan Thornhill at the top of the points table.

In the first race Ben Putnam took the first holeshot of the day but his lead was short-lived as he was quickly caught and passed by James Harrison, who led unchallenged to the flag.

With Harrison unable to replicate his first-moto form, the battle for top honours was between Millward and Liam Garland, with Millward doubling up to take the series lead.

"Yeah, it went really well – I felt really good on the bike and the bike was running well, I can't fault it,” said a happy Millward.

"I managed to come away with two wins and a second, which I'm more than happy with.

"The track held up really well – it's a bit slippery in the woods but other than that it's not too bad.”

The BW85 class was all about Gradie Featherstone.

A bad start in the first moto and a little love-tap with a backmarker saw his day get off to a less than stellar start.

He had to fight his way through the field, finishing a mere four seconds behind second-placed Josh Gilbert as Mitchell Lewis claimed the win.

In the second and third outings Featherstone made sure of his starts and managed to take two fairly comfortable wins ahead of Gilbert, who made it a trio of seconds.

"In the first race I got off a pretty bad start, but managed to pull up to third and within a couple of seconds of the leaders before a backmarker got tangled in my back wheel, so I ended up finishing in third,” explained Featherstone.

"I won the last two today which was really good – I pulled a gap and kept it so that was really good for me.”
