Ryan Dungey strengthened his grip on the 2015 Monster Energy SX 450cc championship with his fourth Main Event win of the year as the series rocked up at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday night for round 10.

The 25-year-old has now opened up a 40-point lead over Trey Canard thanks to a run of nine consecutive podium finishes. The only time the Red Bull KTM rider's been out of the top three was at the season-opener at Anaheim where he finished fourth and with seven rounds remaining the opposition are running out of time to derail him.

Cole Seely grabbed the holeshot before Andrew Short moved into the lead with Dungey settling into an ominous third place. After patiently following Seely through the opening laps Dungey - who won the title in 2010 - made his move on lap five, squeezing up the inside in a left-hand turn. Seely tried to respond in the next corner but went in too hard and crashed.

Short was looking strong at the front but it was only a matter of time before Dungey reeled him in and on lap eight he launched himself into the lead over the huge triple. From that point on the race was pretty much settled with Eli Tomac slotting into second ahead of Blake Baggett.

Ken Roczen, who ran 1-2-1 in the opening three rounds, was forced to sit this one out after aggravating his ankle injury earlier in the day.

Daytona's always a special event on the SX calendar and victory in Florida is something Dungey's been chasing his whole pro career.
