SSDT: King James of Scotland

Motocross

Following a nail-biting finish on the final day, James Dabill won the 2011 100th Anniversary edition of the Scottish Six Days Trial.

Dabill, with a relatively early start number, ended Saturday's final day with a loss of four to finish his week on just 13 marks and lift his second SSDT.

Alexz, with a much later start time, began his day on 13 and needed to go clean to stay in the hunt. And he very nearly made it, only succumbing to a dab three sections from home at Nevis Forest.

An unbelieveable five on the final section at Town Hall Brae, with a dislodged chain, piled on the misery for the defending champ who eventually finished a disappointing fourth behind Gas Gas pilot Michael Brown and Montesa debutante Graham Jarvis.

Local ace Gary Macdonald. was easily the best Scot in a fine fifth overall.

Early leader Dougie Lampkin was a shock withdrawal on Saturday morning, the result of a crash at Fersit on Thursday which saw him injure his left ankle. Doug rode in obvious pain on Friday before deciding not to risk further damage, with the opening World Championship round just a week away.

It was a good week for the SSDT with fine weather on all bar Thursday when later starters got a soaking on their way down Glencoe to the opening grouips at Chairlift and Ba House before heading off over Rannoch moor.

There were a total of 240 finishers from 276 starters, one notable casualty being former World No.2 and Over 40 award challenger Diego Bosis – who was returning to Scotland after an absence of more than  20 years – who suffered a mechanical problem on Thursday.

Bosis had the fault fixed and completed the final two days for no award.
