Gareth Swanepoel took a double win for his Kawasaki Racing team in the MX1 class at the fourth round of the ACU Maxxis British Motocross Championship yesterday, at Hawkstone Park in Shropshire.

He led both races from the start taking gate to flag wins in both motos. During race one he kept a fairly consistent lead over the chasing Billy MacKenzie on the CAS Honda until the end when he extended his lead to over 12 seconds.

The current ACU Maxxis British Motocross Champion, MacKenzie didn't capitalise on his pole position and started the first lap in fourth place. He soon arrived in second place, and held it for the rest of the race which is a good solid result as he is still nursing a thumb injury.

Championship leader, Brad Anderson on the PAR Homes Honda gave chase but had to settle for third gathering more points to extend his title lead.

Race two saw Anderson slot straight into second place behind Swanepoel, and James Noble dropped into third. Noble crashed heavily and lost his podium position to Carl Nunn who was pushing hard and maintained his podium position until the finish.

Anderson has extended the title lead with 173 points, 31 clear of Noble who is running second. The man who has made the biggest improvement is Billy MacKenzie who is now third in the Championship with 127 points.

Swanepoel said; "I've been training and working really hard. I had two good starts and I was able to get away. I have a run of GPs now so I'm glad to have got a result here.”

The fifth round of the ACU Maxxis MX1 Championship will take place at Lyng in Norfolk on the 12th July.
