Teens rule at Teutschenthal

THERE were shocks aplenty in the FIM Womens World Motocross Cup opener at Teutschenthal, Germany, on Sunday.

Last year's top three each scored a moto podium finish at the event, but the top two at the end of the day were two very popular and well supported German teenagers.

Overall winner, after heading home the opener, was Larissa Papenmeier, a five-foot-nothing 17-year-old, and second top scorer on the day was debutant Maria Franke, who had an excellent excuse for not racing the inaugrual womens series last year: I was too young. I only just turned 15.''

And, despite the fate which befell the '06 top three during the day, nothing should detract from either of the young German girls' performances. Papenmeier had also sensationally set pole on Saturday, and Franke led the second moto by ten seconds at one stage !
