This weekend, December 5/6 sees the return of the annual extreme enduro event The Valleys Xtreme Formally Heads of the Valleys, located at Walters Arena, South Wales.

The event is run by Nick Plumb, organiser of the Dawn to Dusk Enduro. Nick has revamped the course for this year and felt a new name would give a fresh challenge to this exciting race.

Walters Arena is a disused open coal mine with 4,000 acres of amazing welsh forestry. The terrain is hardstanding with plenty of rocks and boulders to catch out unwary riders. It is also home of the Dawn to Dusk Enduro.

Continuing from last year's success, hundreds of riders take part in one of the UK's toughest extreme enduro meetings. The event attracts vast numbers of brave riders keen to tackle the 3 lap, 15mile circuit.

Saturday will consist of the qualifying heats to see who lines up in the front row. The qualifying will consist of 2 separate parts, a fire road sprint test (similar to those of the Erzberg Rodeo) and a small extreme style test. Both times will be combined to give a final qualifying time.

The main race kicks off on Sunday morning with riders leaving in rows of 25. "The track has been designed to provide a challenging and demanding course for competent level of rider, while spectator's will be able to get up close and personal with the riders while helping them find the best lines” says Nick.

Riders will be tested by many of the challenging obstacles awaiting them for this year's event. The lap will be different from last year's course, but with a few popular sections kept in, including the tough uphill, which caught many riders out last year.

The finish flag will come out for the first rider to complete the 3 laps. Once the winner finishes, fireworks will be set off to let the remanding riders know the race is over. The 3 checkpoints will close 1hr after the leader has finished.

Spectators will be able to view the track by following many of the interlinking forestry roads, or by our minibus service which will take them to the most challenging and demanding parts of the track. Entry is just £10 per person. Facilities on-site include free and safe-parking, toilets and catering.
