Three down & going great!

THE ACU S3 Parts National (Clubman) Trials Championship is one of the most popular series in the calendar with entries usually hitting the maximum within days of regs going out.

A combination of cracking traditional National trials with multiple section groups connected by roadwork and good rideable sections is quite rightly a massive draw.

And with three rounds already down the series has just broken into a gallop with four rounds in just three weekends!

Last Sunday saw the Hillsborough club run their Jack Wood trial as Round 3, this Easter weekend will see two rounds in Wales, the Powys Trophy and The Lomax trial and then the following Sunday, April 12, it will be back into Yorkshire for the Chris Carter.

The three rounds held to date have already provided three different S3 winners with James Fry nailing maximum points in the North Berks club's opener, the Wallace Cup, Ricky Wiggins on top in the Stratford club's Colmore Cup and last year's series runner-up Chris Pearson taking last Sunday's Jack Wood.

This took Chris into the lead of the series, one he would like to win after a season-long battle with Guy Kendrew in 2014.

The Over 40 class has seen Sheffield's Tony Scarlett, riding his four-stroke Beta, win the first and third rounds but it was mountain-bike ace Rob Warner who bagged his local Colmore victory.

In the 125 class Joe Spivey has enjoyed a clean sweep of wins and a healthy Championship lead.

Easter Sunday will see the Powys Trophy set off from the Can Post Office Hotel, Llangadfan, Powys, SY21 0PL with riders facing a cracking 30 mile loop with the first man away at 9.30am.

Then, on Easter Monday, the action moves from mid Wales to north Wales as the Llangollen club stage their famous Lomax Cup National starting from the Glyn Valley Hotel, Glyn Ceiriog, LL20 7EU. This time there will be a picturesque 35-mile course taking in 36 sections along the way.

Look out for reports of both trials in next week's issue and we'll see how the points are looking before heading straight to the Chris Carter at Dob Park, Otley, on Sunday, April 12.
