Ken Winstanley, who’s just completed his second year running the KWS MX series, is one of the driving forces behind the Ballykelly GP double-header on September 11.
"We’ve built up the KWS series this year just about as far as we can take it – the next step has to be hosting a GP," explains Ken. "It’s something I’ve always wanted to do and I’m very excited about it.
"Ballykelly is a brilliant track and landowner Don Shields is exactly the kind of straight-talking chap I like working with – we’ve got some big, big plans for the event.
"We’ll have loads of help from the Northern Ireland Events Company and loads of good sponsors behind us – the Irish are just so enthusiastic about the sport which is one of the main reasons I wanted to stage the event over there."
As dbr went to press, organisers of the Pontrilas GP – which will also feature a round of the European 125cc championship – were still trying to finalise details of the May 16 event. More news next month…
