Trials

The Scottish Six Days Trial gets under way in Fort William on Monday (May 2) with a capacity field of almost 300 riders preparing to take on the unique Highland event.

The event actually starts on Friday (April 29) with the opening day of the Pre-65 two-day trial.

Sunday will see the weigh-in and traditional parade through Fort William before the serious stuff starts the following morning.

Anyone planning an overnight trip on Thursday or Friday needs to be aware that the A82 in Glencoe will be closed for overnight resurfacing works between the hours of 9pm and 6am.

"Due to the restricted road width at both sections of the route and the nature of the resurfacing operations, a road closure is required for the safety of the workforce as well as motorists,” said a statement from BEAR Scotland, the company responsible for road maintenance.

"Traffic will be allowed to pass through the site at approximately hourly intervals or when it is safe to do so.”

Motorists are advised to take an alternative route if you will not be through Glencoe before the 9pm closure time or be prepared for what may be a lengthy wait until you are allowed to pass.

Apart from that, at the time of going to press, everything for both the Pre-65 and the Scottish Six Days Trial is ready to go.

The Pre-65 will take over the village of Kinlochleven on Friday/ Saturday before the action moves to Fort William on Sunday and then Monday at 7.30am will signal the start of the best six days of trials in the world.

For both events the first thing you need to do is buy a programme, which will not only tell you who all the competitors are – more importantly it will have all the information you need regarding daily routes, section groups, how to access them, the ones you are not allowed to visit and approximate timings.

A programme is absolutely essential.

There's also an eight-page Scottish preview in this week's TMX.

So if you are riding then good luck and if you are spectating or officiating have a great week.

And if you can't make it don't forget TMX next week for the all the

Pre-65 action and an early doors report on the SSDT...
