Charterhouse Auction House will be selling a collection of classic and twinshock trials bikes and parts previously owned by Peter Bennett from their premises in Sherborne, Dorset in their Classic and Vintage Motorbike Auction that is being held on Tuesday, May 31.
The collection, described as being “one man’s 40-year obsession of riding, collecting and generally tinkering around with twinshock motorcycles” includes some iconic machines including an SWM 320 with 0.4 miles on the clock that all belonged to Peter grew up with wheels and engines as his father owned a successful garage.
In the 1960s Peter competed as a solo trials rider with some success and returned to trials again in the 1980s, this time with Bob Honey as his passenger in sidecar trials.
In the collection, there are 60 complete bikes, around 20 dismantled bikes and a huge selection of spare engines, gearboxes, tanks, wheels and other parts, all of which are being sold without reserve.
The bikes and spares, which have been stored in garages, a shipping container, a garden shed and even in his house (both upstairs and downstairs) date from the 1960s with the last bike Peter purchased being some five years ago.
In the collection, there are Greeves, Fantic, SWM, Yamaha, Royal Enfield, KTM, Yamaha, Bultaco, Honda, Montesa, Italjet models and more (see images below).
The auction starts on Tuesday, May 31 at noon and is being held at Charterhouse, The Long Street Salerooms, Sherborne, Dorset DT9 3BS. Viewing is on Monday, May 30 from 09:00 BST until 17:00 BST and on the sale day from 09:00 BST.
