A life-long motorcycle enthusiast, Ron Hulme passed away peacefully on May 27 in Stepping Hill Hospital with his wife Joyce and close family by his side.

The father of Trial Magazine's UK Editor John, Ron had battled diabetes for 48 years before suffering a stroke brought on by the condition.

Born in 1933, his introduction to the world of motorcycles came from his friend Ronnie Band at his garage in Horwich End, Whaley Bridge. After leaving school he worked at the garage before doing his National Service in 1952, spending 18 months in the Suez Canal war zone.

On his return to England he worked for the Gas Board with his friend Roy Beard. In 1955 he married Joyce and over the next 60 years motorcycles were the third partner in their relationship – a new Francis Barnett was purchased before the bedroom suite when they moved into their new home in 1957!

In 1959 eldest son Alan was born while Ron was competing in a trial in Wales and John followed in 1960. Employment was then provided by Ferodo where he spent his remaining working life as a motor vehicle engineer until he retired in 1991 aged 58.

All of his life was devoted to motorcycle trials and he was very proud of his two sons who achieved success in the sport and in life.

He also encouraged many younger riders into the sport when he and his friend John Cantrell introduced ‘Dead Easy' trials at Manchester 17 MCC.

After retiring he found a new motorcycle interest in trail riding and along with a few friends enjoyed outings two or three times a week in his beloved Peak District.

Ron is survived by his wife Joyce and sons Alan and John. The funeral service will take place at Macclesfield Crematorium on June 14 at 1.20pm.

Family flowers only please but donations can be made to Ward E1 at Stepping Hill Hospital.
