Trials Torque: It’s all set for a Nostalgia blast

Trials

ONE of the biggest weekends, certainly in the north, arrives this Saturday and Sunday with the Cumbria Classic MCC promoted Nostalgia trials and scrambles.

With a Pre-65 and Twin-shock trial on Saturday and a similar line-up for the scrambles on Sunday, yet another fantastic weekend is in prospect.

Both events are staged at Home Farm, Middleton, near Sedbergh, approached from the Sedbergh to Kirby Lonsdale road – prepare yourself for a very narrow track!

The event had well over 110 entries at time of going to press with more sure to follow and in the Pre-65 class there are riders like Tony Calvert, Paul Heys and Paul Dennis, all on Cubs of varying spec.

Richard Allen is down to have a run out on a Francis Barnett in the Pre-65 Two-Stroke class.

Mounted on rasping big-twin Triumphs will be Eddie Aitkin, Kev Chapman and Nev Pybus while Harry Stanistreet will have his whispering, burbling Ariel two-stroke twin-cylinder engine Zundapp.

Yes, you do need to see and hear it.

Riders under 25 years of age are slotted into the Twin-shock class which means both Ben Butterworth – who can make that Ariel talk – and younger bro Jack on a 500 Triumph will be ruffling the feathers of the Fantic and Honda dominated class.

The trial is expected to be similar to previous years with two basic groups of sections, one up in the fields, a 10-minute walk, where there are twisting becks while the second group is another short walk down the disused railway line and into the wood, where there is a mix of sections including an always entertaining hillclimb.

Start time is 10am And with such a large line-up of riders and varied machinery sure to turn up it is well worth having a look.

And if you enjoy the trial then please go back on Sunday where the compact scrambles track set in a natural grassy bowl is the perfect setting for some fantastic short, sharp, racing amongst the Pre-65 and Twin-shock mob.

It does what it says on the tin, Nostalgia – but its still as competitive as you can get.

NB: If you are travelling from the south on Friday night or very early Saturday morning on the M6, please note that the motorway will be closed between junctions 33 and 34 form 8pm Friday evening, until 6am Saturday morning.

The advice is to leave at junction 33, follow the signs for Caton, turn right for Kirkby Lonsdale, then follow the signs for Sedbergh and the trial is about four miles south of Sedbergh on the Kirkby Lonsdale to Sedbergh road.
