Club Reports

The East Cumbria club held its final championship round in beautiful autumnal conditions in the sand of the Low Gelt circuit at Brampton.

The track was again prepared to perfection, and there was a great atmosphere in the paddock following Team Cumbria's successful road trip to the ACU Team Event at Mildenhall the previous weekend – where the Cumbrian team finished second overall.

Following practice, the Auto class were first up to tackle a shortened version of the main track. Jake Robley and Jamie Keith led the way with some great battles as the day went on.

In the end Robley took the overall just three-points ahead of Keith to add the Club Championship Trophy to his haul for the season including the Northern Centre and North of England crowns.

Zane Fell collected third on the day to cement his runner-up position on the series. Credit must go to all the Autos for tackling the challenging sand for the first time this season.

The numbers in the Junior 65cc class were boosted by several riders moving up from the Autos. Again it was Robbie Park and Jay Cheel battling at the front, with Cheel reversing the result from round five to take the overall while Park did enough to take second on the day and the class title before moving up to an 85cc machine for the 2017 season.

Liam Johnston claimed another third place overall on the day, but could not topple Bobby-Jak Ennis for the final podium step in the title race.

Josh Grey made the trip from Scotland worthwhile the complete a successful season to take round six overall ahead of fellow Scot, Oliver Barr. Kyle Peel and the fast starting Jake Sharkey could not be separated and gained 118-points each.

North of England Big-wheel 85cc Champion Adam Slavin added another title to his collection by taking the Brampton crown. However, Patrick Jackson, making his second visit to Brampton this year, took the overall on the day. Jack Abbott completed the top three in an ultra-competitive class.

North East Two-stroke rider, Carl Robson competed a successful season aboard his 125 KTM adding another overall on the day and another series title. Fellow Geordie lad, Kai Thirlwell, returned after missing two rounds to finish second overall on the day.

Jack Harris and David Softly finished with 111 points apiece on the day to complete a clean sweep for the North East.

A full gate of Class C class riders lined-up and Kawasaki-mounted Steve Riley claimed a clean sweep on the day. Second went to John Carruthers who topped the Class C crown. Another North East rider, Anthony Worrall finished third on the day. Class B once again produced some great racing. A returning Mike Farr celebrated becoming a dad recently by taking maximum points followed by Karl Rogerson and Aaron Roe.

The Championship was a close run thing with Harry Barnett piping Ben Walsh as Ben missing one round.

Another recent father, Kieron Marr, was in great form in the Junior A.

Kieron headed Joe Taylforth on the podium, with Taylforth taking the overall title by a big margin. John Pattinson and veteran Ewan Johnston finished equal third in class which ran alongside the Class A.

John Robson was victor in Adult A class adding to his win in the previous round and made light work of the mega rough Brampton circuit.

Continuing the baby theme, another recent father, Joe Hodgson, finished second on the day and completed a successful season as East Cumbria Class A champion.

Make sure Brampton is on you to visit list for 2017 after a successful season and many improvements to the track and facilities.
