Club Reports

This was a good start to the Scottish Classic Clubs season with a track in perfect dry condition which produced some hectic racing on a bright but cold day.

Fastest man of the meeting was John Richards on his 490cc Maico who duly won the Twin-shocks from Jim Colligan and big Andy Malloch but some of the younger riders on older bikes such as Aaron Dent, Andy King and Lewis and Liston Bell weren't far behind on speed and Lewis in particular had a great day with two class wins to his name.

He had to combat the blistering speed of RM Suzuki mounted Ian Robertson in the Pre 75 over 300cc class and kept his 1974 CCM ahead of the 1965 Triumph Metisse of elder brother Liston in the under 40's later in the day. Aaron Dent on his 73 250cc Honda Elsinore did brilliantly well in the smaller Pre 75 class well to stave of the challenge of Husky man Tommy Anderson who was returning after a long layoff with a back injury and Andy King was really making Charlle Robertson's 250cc AJS Stormer sing in winning the Pre 70's despite badly knocking himself about in a heavy fall the previous week. The older riders were well represented by 1968 Scottish Motocross Champion Willie Wallace who had some great battles with Ken Soutar in the Over 60's just ahead of Graham ‘Kelso' Bell.

The older machines also put on a great show in the Pre 1960 class with the thundering BSA Goldstars of Ken Soutar and Mike Bell battling with the Triumph twin of a rejuvenated Wullie Gordon who also rode well to third on his lovely blue Metisse in the Pre 65 over 350cc Class behind similarly mounted winner Liston Bell and Smoothie Dent on his Faber BSA. Despite tying for the Over 40's win with storming Billy Chisolm with friend Ian Stainton third, Smoothie survived an horrendous crash late in the meeting which snapped his handlebars clean in two but he's made of stern stuff and jumped to his feet with no harm done.

Graham Bell got his deserved win the very competitive Pre 65 up to 350cc class with his BSA Four-stroke being a bit quick for the CZ and Bultaco strokers of the stylish Stewart Riddell and the battling Jim Allan.

Master of any type of machine Ian Robertson took his Two-stroke Suzuki to a very quick win in the Over 50's from Maico mounted Fergus Moodie with another Suzuki with Brian Hamilton on board a superb third in his best ride with the club.

We now look forward to Leslie on the April 24 which is a track which guarantees close racing. For further details contact Creena Bell on 01875-822195.
