LAST weekend the sixth round of the Junior European Championship ran in the beautiful Bavarian mountains of Bielstein in German. Four 85cc riders, Ryan Houghton, Callum Sloman, Mickey Eccles, ex-pat Jack Kelly, plus two 250cc riders, Josh Waterman and ex-pat Tom Kelly made the journey to Germany.

The weekend had its ups and downs as Ryan Houghton and 12-year-old Mickey Eccles qualified in sixth and 40th. Although racing their hardest, Callum Sloman and Jack Kelly were unable to qualify out of 69 top 85cc riders. Meanwhile Josh Waterman qualified seventh and Tom Kelly 38th on the 250cc class.

The rirst race of the 85cc class saw Ryan Houghton come through to finish in fourth with Mickey Eccles in 29th. In race two Houghton fought his way through to sixth after being slowed by a first corner crash, before getting a rear wheel puncture three-laps from the end of the moto.

Meanwhile, Eccles finished the moto in 28th position.

At the end of the day Ryan Houghton finished fourth overall.

Josh Waterman finished third in the 250cc opener while Tom Kelly ended up in 30th.

Waterman went one better in the second moto, to finish a nail-biting second with Kelly in 34th.

The 3-2 finish earned Waterman third spot on the podium at the end of proceedings.

The picture shows smiles all round as Josh Waterman celebrates his third overall with his mum.
