DUST, rocks, sand and sun were the order of the first day of the 2007 International Six Days Enduro, staged in La Serene, Chile, South America, where France topped the Trophy team competition, thanks in part to Johnny Aubert topping the Enduro 2 class ahead of Finn Juha Salminen. With France finishing just 11 seconds ahead of pre-event favourites Finland, Italy claimed third with Great Britain placing fifth behind Sweden.

In the Junior Trophy team competition, Spaintopped the opening day's result while Britain's Juniors claimed thesame position as their senior countrymen in fifth. France claimedsecond with Italy third.

For the British riders competing in La Serena itwas generally a good opening day. With most riders dealing with the dryand dusty condition well, Junior Trophy team rider Ashley Wood was theexception and had a disastrous day as his bike expired on the veryfirst test of the event. The malady was later diagnosed as main bearingfailure and the Junior Trophy team is now down to three riders withAshley obviously gutted that his event ended before it had a chance tobegin.

Of the six British Trophy team riders it wasWelshman Greg Evans who claimed the best in class' result with animpressive fourth in Enduro 1 aboard his KTM. Finishing just 35 secondsbehind class winner Cristobal Guerrero, Greg claimed fourth in class onthe day's opening test and ended the day one position ahead of formerworld champion Peter Bergvall from Sweden.

I had a great day, enthused the Welshman at theend of the day. It wasn't the most interesting of days but I didn'tmake too many mistakes on the tests. The course and tests wereextremely rough and dusty, it was really easy to make a mistake. It'sgoing to be a tough week because of the dust and sand.

Competing aboard a 250cc four-stroke for the firsttime, newly crowned British Enduro Champion Tom Sagar placed ninth inclass having had a steady day. Like Greg, Tom finished as high asfourth in class but saw a slow final test stop him from finishinghigher.
