Otter Vale MCC will host the 34th edition of its Otter Trophies Trial this weekend, incorporating round one of the Luscombe Suzuki Leeds British Youth A and B Trials Championship. An Sunday morning in Devon a total of 44 youngsters will contest the first of a series of five counting events, writes Barry Robinson.
It is the 34th year in the Otter Trophies history and for Rod Broom and his team are busy preparing the two and half mile course. The section timing will be implemented so the riders have ninety seconds to ride each section. With a longish lap the time allowance of five and half should suffice for three laps.
The Class A riders start at the seventh sub while the Class B contenders, twenty six in number, start at section one. The big names are Class B champion Luke Walker, the Isle of Wight duo of Chris Stay and George Gosden, Sheffield's Corey Dubik, Tom Dexter, Rob Waite, Jack Stones, Welsh hope Joel Edwards and Whitby's Jack Howell.
Class B is just as wide open. Cambrian hope Iwan Roberts starts his second year in the class and has been training. Dan Peace is at the top of his game at present in Yorkshire along with brother Jack. Billy Bolt is the Wallsend charger as is Daniel Tuley.
But will national Class B girls champion Nikita Smith trip the lads up? She won Ipstones with ease so expect fireworks from this girl! The one unknown quantity will be Jack Price who won the Youth class at Horsforth on Sunday. And those who were taken to the cleaners were Dubik, the Stones and  Sam Yeadon.
Enough said... There will be a buttie van present for 8am. Thanks to landowners Mrs Beviss and Mr Price. Don't leave any rubbish as livestock are on the land. Start time will be 11am.
