FOLLOWING discussions at the recent ACU Motocross Committee meeting, Chairman Roy Humphrey wishes to inform ACU members of the reduction in sound levels from 2008 for motocross and supermoto events.

For the forthcoming 2007 season the limit will remain at 96 dB/A, for both two-stroke and four-stroke machines, but, from January 1, 2008, ACU events will stay in line with the recently issued FIM regulations and four-stroke machines will be limited to 94 dBA, whilst two-stroke engines will maintain at the current 96 dBA level.

These levels will remain for both the 2008 and 2009 seasons, but a new lower level will be introduced from January 1, 2010, again following the regulations issued by the FIM and anticipated to be fixed by April 2007.

With the many sensitive issues concerning off-road motorsport, the ACU is encouraging its organisers and clubs to police these sound levels themselves.

Sound meters are available, to ACU affiliated clubs, for purchase at the discounted price of £110 from ACU House, (£120 to non-ACU clubs), in addition to Sound Training for officials wishing to become ACU Sound testers.

For more information on these seminars and sound meters please contact Michelle Haynes on 01788-566405.
