ROUND one of the Race Spec-sponsored BSMA Best of British' Youth motocross championships got underway at Matchams Park on Sunday under something of a cloud, or to be more precise, a cloud of dust.

As issues arose concerning the state of thecourse, in particular the watering or lack of it, on day one thisdefinitely took some of the the shine off this showpiece event.

In what seems to have been something of anunfortunate breakdown in communications between the organising club andMatchams Park, riders had to cope with choking dusty conditions andoften virtually zero visibility.

All of that said, the really hard-working membersof the Ringwood club did all they could to remedy the situation and avaliant effort with copious amounts of water laid down overnight meantday two was a great improvement.

IN a series headlined as the Best of British' youexpect top class action and that's exactly what we got with no group ofriders filling the bill more than the Senior 125cc guys.

Lewis Trickett, with his ability to launch himselffrom the start line like an Exocet missile, took full advantage as heblasted away to three impressive race wins.

In race one there was a fantastic effort fromLewis Tombs as he came from dead last after clipping the start gate torip his way through the field to claim fourth place at the flag. Secondtime out, Lewis made no mistake and took a convincing race win fromWill Worden who himself was always there or thereabouts in the thick ofthe battle.

Other highlights included Nathan Rooks who, withhis typically aggressive never-say-die attitude, fought an edgy racelong duel with Lewis Tombs in race three for second place.

Sixteen-year-old Matt Moffat looked to be on theway to successive wins in the AMX class only for the bottom-end to blowon his KTM in heat three. To the cheers and encouragement of the crowdhe pushed the stricken machine over the line to claim points and remainin the hunt for a podium step.
