Motocross

THERE was no change at the top as the motocross world series continued in eventually sunny Spain last weekend where torrential rain curtailed all Saturday action and left the Bellpuig track, venue for round two of the championship, one-lined and difficult for racing.

Yamaha again took both classes as Josh Coppins doubled up in MX1 andToni Cairoli turned round a first moto reverse at the hands of ChrisPourcel to snatch the MX2 overall on the very last lap of heat two.

It was again an up and down day for the Brits.

Billy MacKenzie had the speed to have made the podium but wasmissing the necessary luck and ended up just missing top ten, Ken DeDycker maintained his title challenge with sixth, but it could havebeen more, Mike Brown got similar results from a holeshot and lastplace starts, and James Noble saw hopes of a double top ten fade in theclosing stages of both motos.

In MX2 Gareth Swanepoel had a wretched day with poor starts andcrashes, Tom Church also suffered poor starts but twice fought throughthe pack to lead home Carl Nunn and Jason Dougan to double scores,Shaun Simpson finally shrugged off fate to post his first GP score ofthe season, and Tommy Searle was the brightest light on the UK horizonwith fourth on the day.
