JAMES Dabill achieved one of his career ambitions last week when the very personable young man from Cookridge, Leeds, took a confident, start to finish win, in the prestigious Scottish Six Days Trial that was based, as usual, in Fort William. His win on the Future TRW Montesa 4RT was the first four-stroke win in the Scottish since Alan Lampkin's (BSA) back in 1966.

Dabill claimed the early initiative on Monday, May 7, when an eight-mark loss through the 70-mile route in appalling weather conditions set a standard that only he could match all week. James set the best score, or joint-best score, on no fewer than four of the six days.

Dibs' eventually took the win by a comfortable 14-mark margin from Michael Brown, with whom he rode last year as a co-member of the TTT Beta team before leaving to join Future TRW.

Browny, still on the TTT Beta, claimed second place on a most cleans tie-break from defending champ Graham Jarvis who was looking to retain his title on the four-stroke Sherco but Grimbo' was always playing catch-up after a disappointing opening day.
