Anstie double keeps title dream alive as dumped Coldenhaoff stuns Suzuki.

Max Anstie swept to an overwhelming double victory at Kegums on Sunday to give himself an outside shot at the MX2 world title while Glenn Coldenhoff stunned the MXGP elite when he gave Suzuki its first GP win of 2015 just days after being told to collect his cards at the end of the season!

Anstie's win, the first since Steve Dixon's crew switched to Kawasaki last winter, has brought him to within 65 points of second-placed Tim Gajser and a further 46 behind the injured Jeffrey Herlings with six GPs still to run.

There was more joy for the Brits in Latvia as Ben Watson broke top 10 for the first time with an opening moto eighth and Shaun Simpson is closing in on the MXGP top six despite a couple of crashes in race one that kept him off the leaderboard. Tommy Searle and Nathan Watson put setbacks behind them to each post a score but Adam Sterry's EMX 250 challenge faltered in a race-two start-straight collision.

In the absence of Herlings MX2 could have been wide open but Anstie stamped his authority on proceedings from the word go as he dominated qualification to earn pole.

The Brit didn't holeshot the first moto on race day but Max worked his way methodically past the three riders ahead of him, his final victim being home boy Pauls Jonass.

"I was confident from the word go but I still had to make it happen,” said Max.

"The start was really heavy in the first race after the rain last night but I was soon fourth and just picked off the riders ahead of me one by one.”

With the holeshot in race two there was never any doubt about the winner.

"As I waited for the start of the second race it went through my head that I had never gone 1-1 before but I got the holeshot and was on my way.

"The whole team has worked hard for this win and it proves that we are headed in the right direction and looking for more wins before the season is over.”

Jonass was second again in race two and was grinning from ear-to-ear as he high-fived the crowd on his way back to the paddock from the podium.

"When I was a kid I used to dream about cheering a Latvian on the podium here. And it's me!”
