Not so perfect for Cervantes!

One rider hoping to put on a good show at the opening round of the World Indoor Enduro Championship at the weekend in Genoa, Italy, was Spanish racer, Ivan Cervantes.

Making his debut ride for the Gas Gas factory after many years with KTM, all eyes were on the former World Enduro Champion as he took to the track on his 250cc two-stroke for the first practice session.

However, after just two laps Ivan's event was over, as crippling back pain resulted in him being taken straight to hospital.

Without crashing Ivan somehow managed to aggravate his lower back when he jumped into the water section a little
too exuberantly and slammed his front wheel into a log.

Initially, the Spanish rider managed to continue round the track a short distance but very soon afterwards he was forced to stop and lay down on the ground for a while, when he realised that his injury was more serious than he first imagined.

He eventually walked off the track to seek medical advice.

Cervantes returned to the arena later in the proceedings clearly disappointed and in pain, arriving just in time to watch the third and final enduro main, after having spent several hours at the local hospital.

Cervantes said simply: "The doctors tell me that nothing is broken, which is good news, but I won't know any more until I return to Spain and have a check-up there.

"All I know is that something in my lower back is giving me a lot of pain and I can't really move too much.”
