Winning return for Billy Mac

BILLY MacKenzie made a dramatic return to racing mode in the Australasian SX series when he recorded a moto win and was edged out of the overall in the penultimate round of the series at Parramatta stadium just outside Sydney.
The ‘Quad' format of short sharp sprints left the overall in doubt until the end of the evening as four races produced four different winners. Series leader Josh Hansen won race one from MacKenzie, but both Kawasakis were buried in the pack second time out as Daniel McCoy won one for KTM, before Billy sneaked up the inside at turn one to hold off Hansen for the distance in race three to leave the overall going into the finale on Hansen 60, MacKenzie 59, Jay Marmont 58 and Jake Moss 56.
It was clearly going to be ‘winner takes all' and Hansen lost his chance immediately with a poor getaway as MacKenzie led a tight front trio ahead of Marmont and Moss.
Marmont dropped his Yam, Billy ran off track in a turn, and Moss took the win for Suzuki.
After only losing the overall on a tie-break, Billy was jubilant: "I am really happy with my result tonight and I did so much better than I ever could have expected. I have been training supercross for a month, but the last couple of weeks have been tough after the accident with Harley Quinlan.
"I was with him when it happened, so riding has been hard. I had some really good starts tonight, which were really important on this track, because it was hard to pass.”
Jake's twin-brother, Matt Moss completed a double for Suzuki in the Lites class, run on the same knockout format as the ‘American' in Bercy. With PJ Larsen suffering a mechanical DNF at the second stage, he also took over the series lead going into next weekend's Brisbane finale. Steven Clarke also exited early in the programme.
