The recent cold snap and snow in certainn area has played havoc with events scheduled over the Christmas weekend. Below are details of events which clubs have notified us as being cancelled.

Richmond and DMC has cancelled its Albert Shaw Trophy Trial at Hurst on December 26. The event was initially scheduled at Reeth then switched to Hurst.

However, in the end the club made the decision to cancel because of potentially dangerous ground conditions. The temperature in the Swaledale region has ranged between between minus 4 and minus 10 degrees, so the ground is frozen solid.

While road conditions leading to Hurst are quite reasonable, the decision by event organiser, Nathan Stones, was made with safety concerns in mind.

The club may seek a date in January to re-run the event.

After visiting the quarry at Long Sutton on Thursday, December 23, officials of Somerton Classic MCC have decided to cancel its Gordon Francis Memorial and Charity Trial originally plannned for Monday, December 27.

We're told that the club could have made up a reasonable course for riders, but the track from the road to the venue is patricularlly icy and the cold conditions would have been very uncomfortable for observers.

The club hopes to re-run the event on February 28 at the same venue.
