Motocross

THERE was glorious sunshine at the weekend and some fantastic battles as the Moggstar ACU BYMX series moved north to the East Cumbria club's British championship track, situated at Brampton, for round three of the championship.

Lots of hard work in the week running-up to the event by all in the East Cumbria club meant the track was in perfect condition and the scene set for some fantastic battles in all classes.
The first race of the weekend saw the Big-wheel 85cc class take to the track, and it was championship leader, PAR Honda man Luke Hawkins, who showed why he is leading the championship by taking an impressive lead in front of Jake Page and Matthew Flemming. Page stayed with Hawkins for most of the race until a mishap on lap six saw him go out of the race, letting Flemming take over in second while Hawkins went on to win comfortably. Bradley Pocock claimed third, with Daniel Hutchinson coming home fourth.
Race two and Hawkins took-off in the lead again, leaving Page and Flemming to battle it out with Hutchinson in their wheel tracks, Page once again let Flemming into second and was in a battle for third with Pocock and Hutchinson for the rest of the race. Hawkins had a clear win, with Flemming second, and Page eventually claimed third ahead of Paul Coates who came from behind after Pocock went out, and Hutchinson had a couple of offs.
In the Small-wheel 85cc class, Jordan Godwin took race one from start to finish leaving everyone else to battle for the positions behind. James Dunn claimed second place, while Callan Cooper battled with Rickie Rodderick for third, Rodderick eventually getting past Cooper on lap five to take it.
Race two saw Rodderick take the lead on lap one, but Dunn was on his tail and took over in the lead on lap two. Cooper then got past to try and catch Dunn, but Godwin was on his tail with young Ben Watson in tow. Dunn took the win, with Godwin second, Watson third and Cooper fourth.
The Junior 65cc class saw some exciting battles in race one with Robert Yates leading from start to finish for the win. Ben Green was on his tail throughout the race but could not get past and had to settle for second. With championship leader Ryan Snaith getting a bad start, Jason Meara held third place, with Danny Lefear in fourth, until Snaith came back to take both of them on lap four and claim the third position.
