Trials

WESTMORLAND MCs Bultaco Revival Nostalgia Trial was a success in its own right when staged last Sunday near Sedbergh in Cumbria attracting well over 30 Bultaco riders in the 100 strong entry and it was great to see so many old tacos ridden by some great characters like Dave Thorpe, James Lampkin, Boyd Webster, Nick Shield and the Myers clan, brothers Chris and Mike and Mikes lads David and Sam.

David had gone out and bought a Bultaco on the week of the trial and when he got there the vendor had two Bults - so David bought them both!

But the icing on the cake was the assembly of Continental Bultaco riders and members of the Bulto family that Yrjo Vesterinen persuaded to attend.

There was former World Round winner (and Bulto family member) Manuel Soler, Ignacio Bulto, Oriol Bulto, Jaime Puig and Xavier (Cuckoo) Cucurella.

They were joined by French World Championship ace Charles Coutard who still looks as good as ever on a bike, so relaxed and easy on the controls.

All bar 82 year-old Oriol rode the event on Bultacos provided by Vesty and all were more than happy to talk about the good old days to anyone who wished to listen.

Manuel recalled some great days at the Scottish Six Days Trial and the fun that was had at nights in the old Grand Hotel in Fort William.

He was sad to hear that The Grand has since been demolished. Nothing to do with his antics, he was assured!

"Life is for living, it is not just about the trial, sure we tried hard to win but we always made sure to make the most of it wherever we went,” said Manuel.

Great job by the Westmorland club faithful and massive thanks to Vesty for making the day very special.
