It all Adds up for Dibs

JAMES Dabill eased back into the lead of the 2012 British Trials Championship with a confident and classy ride at the fifth and penultimate round of the series, The MacKenzie Trophy Trial, staged by the Yeadon Guiseley club on exposed Addingham Moorside, high above the Yorkshire town of Silsden on Sunday.

Dibs finished his three laps of a dozen rocky sections a clear 10 marks ahead of nearest rival, Michael Brown, to set-up a head to head clash for the British title at the final round in East South Wales in September.

Yeadon Guiseley had returned to Addingham for their Championship round after several years at Brimham Rocks near Pateley Bridge and Danny Cockshott, aided by Britain's trials bike importers, did their best to put on a challenging No-stop course for both the Championship and Expert classes.

In terms of numbers, the Championship class began with 26 starters with the Experts boasting just one more and it was good to see so many riders supporting the Championship.
Addingham, for those who don't know, is a steep, exposed hillside littered with huge rock faces and large chunks of broken-off rockery.

All sections are variations on climbs and drops on the various rock faces.

Both Expert and Championship classes started with a gentle opener low down on the hillside before being hit with a stunner at number two.

This cleverly marked out climb didn't contain any vertical surface over 18-inches high but the steep climb out over several small steps with an earth run-up required perfect speed and throttle control.

Dibs was in a class of his own here taking the only two cleans of the day on the first two laps before succumbing to a dab last time through.

In contrast Browny went 5-2-5 and lost 11 marks to his rival.

Jack Sheppard, on his way to his first ever adult Championship podium – in fact it was his first ride this year – enjoyed a single dab ride on this section on his final attempt, as did Ross Danby on the Jotagas.

Riders then eased through the next two sections before arriving at section five, directly above the parc ferme and in the centre of the hillside.

This twisting section featured a tricky, steeply climbing left turn that was a real challenge to ride no-stop but it was certainly possible.

Dabill and Brown were joined by James Fry in managing cleans on the opening circuit.

Jack Challoner managed to keep his feet up on the section on his last lap while the only double clean came from Sherco mounted Fry who finally needed a two to conquer the hazard on his last lap.

Dabill was then the only rider to log three clean rides on the eighth, as Browny slacked three dabs,
one on each lap.
